Bailey Beats: DaShawn Hickman

This September, be a part of a larger musical tradition! Bailey Beats is bringing DaShawn Hickman, one of the most renowned current practitioners of sacred steel-style music, to the Bailey Park stage. This blues-gospel tradition was born from the Pentecostal churches of the 1930s, and DaShawn Hickman has been playing the lap steel guitar since he was 5 years old.

Full of soul and energy, DaShawn Hickman is keeping this beloved music tradition going strong in his native North Carolina. Come to Bailey Beats to be a part of the history of sacred steel.   

Outside alcohol is prohibited, but you are welcome to bring outside food to enjoy at the event. Plan to bring your own seating—a blanket or low-backed chair so everyone can see well. If your music-loving dog comes along, please make sure they’re on a leash.  

In the case of inclement weather, changes to the event will be made by 4 p.m. on the day of the event. Keep an eye on iQ social channels for those weather updates.
