Community Concert w/ WS Symphony
06/05/2015 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Grab a blanket or low-slung chair and join us for this free, community event as musicians from the Winston-Salem Symphony perform works by seven living American composers on the Bailey Park stage in the Wake Forest Innovation Quarter. The small ensemble will shift in shape in size, from a duet to a chamber orchestra, as the musicians survey contemporary American composition.
Among the works to be performed are David Lang’s driving and unpredictable “Cheating, Lying, Stealing,” Gene Koshinski’s comic and virtuosic “Get It!,” Missy Mazzoli’s joyful yet haunting “Still Life with Avalanche,” and Judd Greenstein’s uplifting and colorful “Clearing, Dawn, and Dance.”
The concert also features some local connections. Amy Fitzgerald, the lead singer for Winston-Salem’s popular band The Aquatic Ceremony, will join the musicians for the song “Calypso” from Sarah Kirkland Snider’s modern day Odyssey, “Penelope.” The musicians will also perform “Liftoff” by Scott Lee, a PhD candidate at Duke University in Durham, NC, and a quartet by Mason Bates, an internationally renowned composer who has had a close relationship with the Winston-Salem Symphony since the commissioning of his “Rusty Air in Carolina” in 2006.”
Public parking is available along Patterson Avenue between 4th and 5th Streets. Parking is also available in the P1 Parking Lot, located across the street from Wake Forest Biotech Place and accessible via 5th Street.
In the event of rain this event will be moved inside to the atrium at Wake Forest Biotech Place.
Beverages will be available for purchase on-site and guests are free to arrive early and bring a picnic! Please, no outside alcoholic beverages.
