SQL Basics – Using MySQL: Build a Database

This 4-session course requires that you bring your own laptop!  All sessions will be held at Flywheel from 6:00-8:30pm.

A relational database is still found at the center of nearly every software application.  This course will introduce core, platform-agnostic relational database concepts using the MySQL database management system but all concepts apply also to SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, MS Access or other vendor-branded varieties.

What you’ll learn: 

Over the course of 4 sessions you will learn how to transform real world concepts into database structure and then use that structure to maintain data of interest.  Sessions 1 and 2 will introduce common relational database design concepts through lecture, Q&A and hands-on practice.  In sessions 3 and 4 the universal programming language of databases (SQL) will be introduced and practiced in as much depth as we can within the time allotted.  Specifically, we will cover:
