Global Fitness Leader Announced as Newest Tenant in the Innovation Quarter’s Bailey Power Plant

Wexford Science & Technology and Wake Forest Innovation Quarter announced today the addition of F45, a global fitness community specializing in innovative, high-intensity group workouts, as the newest tenant in Bailey Power Plant.

The F45 training studio will occupy 2,754 square feet on the first floor of Bailey Power Plant and will offer 45-minute high-intensity, circuit training workout classes for studio members, with the same class at different times throughout the day. The new facility will employ approximately six full- and part-time employees and is expected to open in January 2020.

“The Innovation Quarter is focused on providing a variety of health and fitness options to everyone who works, lives, learns and plays here,” said Graydon Pleasants, head of real estate development for the Innovation Quarter.
F45 will bring its globally recognized fitness training franchise to downtown Winston-Salem for the first time at the Bailey Power Plant location. There are currently 1,750 F45 studios in 45 countries with more than half a million F45 members around the world. There are currently 30 different F45 locations in North Carolina.
Unlike traditional fitness gyms where users self-select what equipment they use or what classes they may take on any given day, F45 is an exclusively group-training facility that features technology-based workouts so that the prescribed exercises and corresponding music each day are the same in every F45 facility around the world. F45 has a database of more than 4,000 movements that are customized to make each workout unique.
“F45 creates a fun, upbeat environment where goals are met and exceeded in a team training environment,” said Dee Duggan, owner of F45 Winston-Salem. “We think the Innovation Quarter is an optimal choice for Winston-Salem’s first F45 training facility because we use group training and technology to motivate and encourage fitness, good health and growth, helping members perform better in all aspects of life.”
The F stands for functional training, a mix of circuit and HIIT style workouts geared toward everyday movement. The fixed, 45-minute duration workouts provide a timing structure to maximize members’ growth and progress. Functional training is the engagement in exercises that mimic or re-create everyday movement to help people maintain their form and posture to prevent injuries. These types of exercises typically involve the use of the entire body and multiple muscle groups, and build and sculpt lean, functional muscle using lifting, squatting, jumping, twisting, pulling, pushing, punching, kicking, rowing, and biking.

F45 in Bailey Power Plant will offer five classes per day with two workouts in the early morning, one at lunchtime and two evening classes.

“Adding a global fitness leader like F45 is a perfect fit for the Power Plant and Innovation Quarter as they specialize in creating communities focused on wellness and provide another great active use to draw the broader community to the area,” shared Will Partin, senior director of development for Wexford Science & Technology. Bailey Power Plant, which opened in February 2018, features approximately 110,800 square feet space suitable for offices, entertainment, retail and meeting space. There is roughly 8,000 square feet of retail space still available on the first floor, with 15,000 square feet of office/innovation space available on the third floor.
