Virtual: MESDA Summer Scholars Series (Week 4): The Backcountry

July 26, 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Whether you are new to the world of antiques, are a seasoned collector, or just love southern history, this program is for you.
Inspired by MESDA’s annual Summer Institute, this digital program will introduce you to southern decorative arts and explore some of the best stories from the Chesapeake, the Lowcountry, and the Backcountry. Each week includes two live, interactive, curator-led presentations and discussion sessions, supplemental readings, and exclusive access to recorded lectures by legendary experts from MESDA’s archives.
This week curator of Moravian decorative arts Johanna Brown will introduce the rich history of ceramics in North Carolina. Then, Dr. Daniel Ackermann, interim chief curator, will conclude the course with a look at the decorative arts of the trans-Appalachian west and how westward migration changed the course of Southern, and American, history forever. Register here.
