A retail/restaurant location in the Innovation Quarter’s Wake Forest Biotech Place that has been closed since the COVID-19 pandemic began will open later this spring.

Diamondback Downtown will open and operate around 2,000 square feet of space on the ground floor of Biotech Place across from Allegacy Federal Credit Union, offering lunch options including handcrafted sandwiches, deluxe salads, soups and other made-fresh, on-the-go items for the students, researchers, workers and community members who frequent the Innovation Quarter.

The new lunch eatery is operated by Murph and Kimberly Gregg, owners of Diamondback Grill—located in the Buena Vista area of Winston-Salem—which is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.

“We’re very excited about offering a new lunch option in this area of downtown Winston-Salem and bringing our signature brand of freshly made favorites,” said Murph Gregg. “With all the activity happening in the Innovation Quarter between the medical school, the companies here and Bailey Park, creating a new lunch spot in Biotech Place is an opportunity we couldn’t pass up.”

“Our retail and restaurant tenants here in the Innovation Quarter provide a huge sense of place and excitement to this community,” said Lindsey Schwab, Innovation Quarter director of community relations. “Adding a well-known local restaurant that offers quick lunch solutions like Diamondback Grill adds vibrancy and variety for our tenants, students and visitors.”
